Laboratory for Characterization of Permanent Magnets and Magnetic Materials

The laboratory for Characterization of Permanent Magnets and Magnetic Materials includes a high power Magnetizer, an Hysteresysgraph and a Thermal Chamber.

The AMH-500 Hysteresisgraph is a DC automatic measuring system for characterization of hard magnetic materials, such as Alnico, Ferrite, NdFeB, SmCo and bonded magnets. The AMH-500 meets International Standard IEC 60404-5 and ASTM A977. Measurements are performed at temperature ranging from ambient up to 220°C and meets International Standard IEC/TR 61807.

The thermal chamber is an ANGELANTONI 1600DM with a useful capacity of 1500 liters is able to control the temperature in the range -20 to 180ºC with a ±0,3°C fluctuation. It also controls humidity within the range 10 to 95%.

The magnetizer is a KCJ-30M(20-G-1M-3-PO) that allows output voltage control from 50 to 3kV, with a maximum output current of 5kA contains a capacitor bank of 2000 uF.

Electric Drives Lab

The electric drives laboratory is mainly dedicated to assembling and evaluate electric machines and electronic power converters to drive them.

The laboratory contains several test benches with permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs), Synchronous Reluctance Machines (SynRM), induction machines (IM), wound rotor synchronous machines (WRSM) and Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) mainly.

Recently, the laboratory has included a test bench containing a Variable Leakage Flux Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (VLF-PMSM), high precision equipment for the characterization of permanent magnet materials (both hard and soft), a high power magnetizer and a set of high precision oscilloscopes, registers, power analyzers, and current and isolated voltage probes.

Power Converters Lab

The power converters laboratory is mainly dedicated to assembling and evaluate electronic power converters for specific applications including railway, grid connection, etc.

Recently, the laboratory is equipped with high precision oscilloscopes, registers, power analyzers, and current and isolated voltage probes.

High Power Lab

The high power laboratory is mainly dedicated evaluate high power machines and converters. The peak power installed is 175kW and contains high voltage inductions machines (3kV), it contains a high power multilevel converter and a high voltage-high power DC power supply (4kV).
